For decades, Dr. Dusty Jessen has provided me with a succession of hearing aids, and I have watched as the technology improves. Not only has it changed my life with the obvious advantage of the ability to continue to socialize, but at 85 I am still employed. I would not be able to continue to work as an instructor at Colorado State University without hearing aids. With fairly recent Blue Tooth technology, I am able to continue to relax and enjoy television programs. British-based PBS programs have been problematic due to the actor’s accents, but by fine tuning using my smart phone, I am able to hear what is being said. This requires some experimentation with volume, frequency response and noise filter. What I discovered is that too much volume will distort speech. Turning the noise filter off also helps. The main breakthrough, however, is to use the frequency response curve and increase base, keep mid range the same and reduce high frequency response. These are relatively easy with a smart phone, but they are time consuming. For everyday use, all around sound and focused sound both aid in everyday situations. Dr. Dusty Jessen can easily set these up for her patients.

Excellent service! Dusty took molds of my ears for the purpose of ordering custom in-ear monitors (I’m a musician). She cleaned my ears before doing the molds. I went 2 weeks with a clogged ear and I had no idea this process would be so easy. I had a fantastic experience at Columbine Hearing Care. Friendly staff and very informative with every step of the cleaning process. I felt like I was hearing in high definition when I was done. I wish I had done it sooner!

I was in Colorado on vacation when my right hearing aid failed. My father — who is a regular patient of CHC — secured a courtesy appointment for me the same afternoon with Brenda. Without even being a patient of the practice, Brenda repaired my hearing aid, saved my vacation, and didn’t charge me a penny for it. That is patient care and customer service on a level that is unheard of. Thank you, Brenda, and CHC, for being so awesome — this is why my father is a patient at your practice and not somewhere else.

Oh my goodness, if you have a need for hearing aids you should run not walk, not hesitate, no delay in going to to Dr Dusty Jessen or Brenda Garcia at Columbine Hearing Care. I have know Dusty for over 10 years when she worked at an area ENT’s office and I developed early hearing loss. Unfortunately I did not buy my first hearing aids thru her because my insurance was not accepted at the ENT’s office. Now that I am needing a second set of hearing aids (yes, I waited way toooo long to get the 2nd pair) I have returned to the most patient, thorough, flexible, current, competent and generally affordable office given the service that you receive. My new pair of Aids have a much more custom fit, my hearing is more keen and all at a lower cost than I spent 10 years ago for a lesser product. Columbine Hearing can perform hearing tests, test the pressure in your ears, help set you up with phone apps to use your bluetooth with your hearing aid or turn it off. If current technology is not your desire they can supply you with the good old fashion battery operated aids. Dusty and Brenda have ‘test’ aids that you can try which is incredibly helpful given the variability of hearing environments and hearing loss. I just wish my family lived in town to share them with this wonderful office. My advice is to be kind to yourself because this is a journey and it isn’t accomplished in a visit or even two or three. You need commited professionals to see you through this very vulnerable process, I recommend Dusty and Brenda without hesitation!

Dr. Dusty is the absolute best of the best. She gives her clients her complete attention; is so personable, kind and responsive; and truly wants to enhance the lives of those she serves. In addition, her generous heart is seen in her service work of providing audiology services in Guatemala. She also has a beautiful office in Littleton which is very warm and welcoming. I highly recommend Dusty for any one in need of her services as well as their loved ones whose lives could be so greatly impacted by improvements to their hearing.

Dusty and Brenda are both very special people, plus they know their business. I appreciate their willingness to be there for me whenever I have questions. I love these new hearing aids. Getting rid of batteries and going to charging is awesome! I am one very happy person. I even hear better without my hearing aids which was a surprise for me which they explained thoroughly.

When I first connected with Dr. Dusty, confirming that seniors with hearing loss were ‘her people,’ I knew I needed to connect my dad with her. He’s been struggling with hearing loss for a long time, but his insurance didn’t offer any kind of hearing aid coverage. And, of course, finances have been super tight, this year, especially. When she said that she could offer him older-model hearing aids at a minimum investment, I was sold! Dr. Dusty was able to fit my dad into her schedule within a few days, and he walked out of her office with hearing aids! I noticed a significant and immediate difference in our interactions – he could actually hear me and (all) of my smart-aleck commentary!
Here’s what Dad had to say: I really appreciate the friendly skill and care that Dr. Dusty Jessen exercised in getting me fitted for hearing aids. From the comprehensive hearing test to her suggestion I have molds made of my ear canals so my custom-made aids would stay put — it was a worthwhile experience. She even recommended I keep my devices in when at home, citing a Johns Hopkins study connecting hearing loss and onset of dementia. I highly recommend her services.

My husband and I had come for hearing help at Columbine Hearing Care not because our hearing had deteriorated so severely that we were handicapped while out in the world, but rather because we were slowly but surely driving each other crazy at home!
When we visited for the 3-month follow-up, we both realized that the level of tension in our house had gone down considerably. We enjoy our crisper hearing, and it’s a treat to listen to books or music through them. But our ease at home is due to not only the aids, but the communication strategies that Dr. Dusty gently taught us. No more “What did you say – you want dinner or you don’t want dinner?” “We’re not teenagers anymore, I can’t hear you when you mumble!” “Can you please inhale before you start to talk – I can never hear your first three words!” “Why do you talk to me from the other room?” Conversations in the car are easier. And it’s kind of sweet to walk up to the spouse and gently touch them to get their attention before starting to speak; my friend, a poet, thinks she’ll write a poem about the end of Spousal Deafness Syndrome – tongue-in-cheek, but true. And, every so often, the doggie-emails seem to be exactly about us. It’s been a very positive experience for us.

I recently visited Columbine Hearing Care for an audiology evaluation with Dr. Dusty Jessen. Dr. Jessen is fully credentialed in her field, and she conducted my evaluation with great expertise and the latest equipment. Her chair side manner is warm and kind. Dr. Jessen has authored two excellent books about hearing loss that she distributes to patients, and she is active in her professional community. I left this appointment fully informed about my issues and options, and highly recommend Dr. Dusty.

Dr Dusty Jessen is a a personable, caring, highly credentialed, licensed and certified audiologist. As a speech pathologist, I wanted a well trained professional as my audiologist! Dusty is! She made me feel as if I were her only patient, taking time to evaluate my hearing and recommending I wear diagnostic aids for a couple of weeks. What an innovative concept! By the time I finished that period, she knew which type of aids would help me the most. Dusty was spot on. Dusty did some tweaking with my new aids, which I’ve worn for about 2 months and love them. They are very comfortable and help me very much! A friend referred me…and I refer YOU to Dusty. You’ll not be disappointed! She’s excellent.

If you find you are starting to have hearing issues or just want a baseline done of your hearing, I’d highly recommend Columbine Hearing Care.
Dr. Jessen was friendly, engaging, answered all my questions and spent as much time as I needed.
I also had my son go with me to get fitted for custom fit ear protection. An easy 15 minute process that will end up with him having much better hearing protection than you can find off-the-shelf.

I definitely had a five-star experience at Columbine Hearing Care. Dr. Dusty Jessen is an expert audiologist and a caring, conscientious person. Her prices are comparatively low, and the service she provided was better than I had experienced with my previous provider. Furthermore, I had never received followups about how I was doing with my hearing aids after I purchased them. I highly recommend Columbine Hearing Care. It is state of the art hearing care.
